Obituary for Barbara Elaine Higgins (Swett)

Barbara Elaine  Higgins (Swett)
Barbara Elaine-Swett Higgins, 70 years, of Gorham died April 28, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her family at her side.

Barbara was born July 24, 1947 in Saco, ME a daughter of Byron and Elaine (Towne) Swett. She graduated from Gorham State Teachers School (USM) and earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Southern Maine. She was a special education teacher working for the Narragansett Elementary School in Gorham for ten years and then for MSAD 6 at the H B Emery, Jr. Memorial School in Limington and the Buxton Center School. Barbara also worked for 30 years at Captain Newick’s Restaurant during school breaks. On January 16, 1972, Barbara married Earl Hayden Higgins.

Barbara loved spending time with her family. Holidays were special, especially Christmas. She enjoyed numerous trips to Disney World and trips to Canada. She enjoyed renting lakeside homes in the summer and loved the ocean as well. She also enjoyed touring historic homes and the mansions in Newport, RI. She was very giving and enjoyed volunteering for the Girl Scouts and Hearts and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center in Buxton.

Barbara is lovingly remembered by her husband, Earl; her two daughters, Andrea Guiliani and her husband, Benjamin, of South Portland and Lauren Perreault and her husband, Derrick, of Gray, ME; her sisters, Patricia Laroche and Charlene Davis; and her four grandchildren, Adelynn, Benjamin, Gabriella and Elaina; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 1 PM at the Kennebunk Baptist Church with Rev. James King followed by a time of fellowship. Interment and Committal service at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery in Kennebunk.
