Obituary for Edna Margaret "Teddy" Welch

On Sunday, December 12, 2021, Edna Margaret Welch, best known as Teddy, of Wells Branch, Maine, most loving wife, mother, grammy, gramma, gma and friend, left her family’s side at the age of 73.
Teddy attended Kennebunk High School through 1966 and on March 3rd of the following year, married John “Johnny” L. Welch, Sr., her devoted husband of 54 years.
Teddy and Johnny built their home in Wells Branch and together they operated Grasshopper Lawn Service, a successful landscape business for 37 years, offering landscape services throughout the Kennebunks, Wells, Ogunquit and Cape Neddick.
Teddy enjoyed many years of camping memories with her children, grandchildren and friends, traveling throughout the State of Maine visiting state parks and surrounding campgrounds.
In the fall/winter of the early 1990’s, Teddy, along with her husband, made their way to sunny Central Florida, where they eventually purchased their second residence to become “snow birds.” Their Davenport home quickly became another haven for family and friends to visit and gather, and one of Teddy’s most favorite places to enjoy. It wasn’t long thereafter she began to revel in the opportunity to cruise, from the Western and Eastern Caribbean, Europe and through the Panama Canal, one of her favorite destinations.
As the family matriarch, the well-being and love for her family was most important. There was no greater bond than the bond held between Teddy and each one of her children and grandchildren, each bond so unique and special in its own way. She was so proud of them all and wanted nothing less than the best for each of them.
Teddy will be sorely missed by her son, John L. Welch, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Peggy L. Welch (Gagne); her granddaughters, Bryanna Taylor Welch and Olivia Kenzie Welch; her daughter, Marcy Lynn Welch; her granddaughter, Logan Victoria Snyder; her son, Aaron Richard Welch; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mayer; and her grandson Iroh E. Mayer Welch.
Teddy’s heart of gold and “one-of-a-kind” personality was embraced by all those that knew her. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved and always made a point to let everyone know the door was open and the cupboards were well stocked. To know her was to love her – BIG!
Teddy was preceded in death by her parents, Willis C. McKay, Sr. and Olive Boston McKay, her brother, John C. McKay and her sister Beverly McKay Hill. Teddy is survived by a brother, Willis C. McKay, Jr. and his wife Anita McKay, as well as several nieces & nephews.
Per Teddy’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A private interment is planned for the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
