Obituary for Anita G. Stephens (Grant)

Anita Grant Stephens, 71, of Kennebunkport, ME passed away January 28, 2020. She was born August 1, 1948 in Passaic, NJ to Warren and Anita (Driscoll) Grant.

Anita graduated as part of the Class of 1966 from St. Mary’s High School in Paterson, NJ. She went on to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. She worked as a Registered Nurse throughout her entire career. She held positions in all phases of nursing at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, Somerset Hospital in Somerville, NJ, and as a Visiting Nurse in New Jersey and Maine.

Anita married Benjamin Stephens on November 28, 1998 in Bernard’s Township, NJ. She was a warm, outgoing, nice person with a great smile. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Mexico and Europe; hiking, which included adventures in many National Parks; and spending time with friends and family at the beach. She volunteered her time at Southern Maine Health Care and Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library in Kennebunkport.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Anita Grant. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Ben Stephens of Kennebunkport; sisters, Elizabeth G. Walsh of Kennebunk and Eileen G. Sebestyen of Ashland, MA; step-children, who she treated as her own, Benjamin Stephens and his wife, Cathy of South Windsor, CT, Kevin Stephens and his wife, Sally of Milford, NH, Helen Leach and her husband, Kevin of Milford, NH, and Brendan Stephens of London, England; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and cousins in New York and Idaho.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, ME. A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at St. Martha's Church, 30 Portland Rd., Kennebunk. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at St. Nicholas Cemetery, 2 Terrace Ave., Lodi, NJ 07644.
