Obituary for Anthony D. "Tony" Spina Jr.

Anthony D. "Tony" Spina Jr.
Anthony D. “Tony” Spina, Jr., 72, of Wells, Maine, formerly of East Boston, passed away early Friday morning, May 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Winthrop, MA, the son of Anthony D. Sr. and Margaret Spina. Tony grew up in East Boston and graduated from Boston Latin High School. He also attended Salem State College. After college, Tony enjoyed a long career as a computer analyst with New England Financial Services, retiring after 30 years.

Tony is survived by his three sisters, Carolyn E. Spina of West Roxbury, MA, Margaret and spouse Richard Simolari of Easton, MA, Veronica and spouse Jack Brown of Andover, MA. He is also a beloved uncle to Nicole Garabedian, of Andover, MA, Amanda DeBow of New York, NY, Allison Allen of Dracut, MA, and Peter Brown of Stoneham, MA, and great-uncle to Charlie and Jackson.

Tony relocated to Maine sixteen years ago and made a home and lots of new friends there, often chatting with the neighbors over a cup of coffee. He also enjoyed staying in touch with old friends and was committed to daily and weekly calls with many of them. Tony was a kind man with an enormous heart and sense of fun, sharing many of his “treasures” with those around him. He loved his cats and volunteering at the local animal shelter and was a theater fan who volunteered at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Tony loved to cook and be with family and was always teaching the next generation something new at the family’s annual Cookie Day celebration. He was excited to share his special mashed Maine potatoes at Thanksgiving and his truly unique white elephant gifts at Christmas, which we will all miss. While he did not have children of his own, he was loved by his nieces and nephews who will hold him dearly in their hearts.

With social restrictions from COVID-19 virus, the family will have a private burial service.
