Barbara Marie (Willwerth) Nieman, 92, a native of Malden, MA and resident of Wells, ME, passed away on April 24, 2021. She devoted her life to raising 9 children and keeping a clean home. She was an avid reader and swimmer who enjoyed crochet and knitting. She loved gallivanting at local flea markets and thrift stores, and was an accomplished cook and baker. She was a devout Catholic and watched Mass on TV every Sunday when she could no longer make it to Mass at the church. She also served as a hospice volunteer when she lived in Safety Harbor, FL.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Richard V. Nieman, Sr.; her parents - Martin and Gertrude (Blakely) Willwerth; her sons - Paul M. Nieman, Barry T. Nieman, and David A. Nieman; her grandson Christopher M. Nieman; as well as her best friend of 70+ years Annie Guazzerotti.
She is survived by: her sons - Richard V. Nieman, Jr. and wife Ann Marie of Ayer, MA, Michael J. Nieman, Sr. of Wells, ME, Philip X. Nieman and wife Ruth Ann of Wilmington, MA, and John M. Nieman of Wells, ME; her daughters – Barbara A. Winslow and husband Robert of Hyannis, MA and Theresa F. Painter and husband David of York, ME; her twelve grandchildren; and her eighteen great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 4 from 9:30 -10:30 am at Bibber Memorial Chapel in Wells, followed by a Mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow at First Parish Cemetery in York, ME, where she will receive Navy Honors.
