Obituary for Barry Donald Hall

Barry Donald Hall died unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at his residence in Berwick, Maine. He was the first-born of Donald and Gertrude (Trudy) Hall and was 73 years old.

Barry was a lifelong resident of Berwick, Veteran U.S. Navy SeaBee, owner and operator of Donald R. Hall, INC. roofing business until retirement in 2016, and 50+ year part-time employee for the Town of Berwick. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, something he shared with both his children and grandchildren, spending hours in the woods or on the lakes of Maine with them. He especially loved being outdoors with a chainsaw in hand, on his tractor, or at his sawmill. Barry was widely known for his sweet tooth, his ‘Gilligan style’ bucket hat and his conversation starters such as “you been work’n hard or hardly work’n?” He was no stranger to a hard days’ work and even in his later years, he would often comment he was still “right out straight” with retirement activities. He developed a love for antiquing and saw value where most would miss it. For Barry, there was never a bad yard sale…each one must be investigated! He was dearly loved and immensely respected by all who knew him, and Barry’s captivating presence will be greatly missed.

Barry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy D.; son, USAF Colonel(ret) Russell J. and his wife, USAF Colonel Andrea M. living in Virginia; daughter, Amy D. Cyr of Berwick; four grandsons, Oliver and Colton Hall and Jacob and Jonathan Cyr; and sister, Jill E. Perkins and her husband, Donald A. of Corinth. He was predeceased by his parents.

A graveside service will be held on May 4, 2024, 1:00 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick, Maine. Light refreshments will be served after because Barry never wanted to attend an event unless there was food involved.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barry’s honor to the Maine Youth Fish and Game Association, PO Box 337, Stillwater, ME 04489 (Venmo Charities - @MaineYouthFishandGame) or Berwick Chapter of the American Legion, Charles S. Hatch Post #79, PO Box 977, Berwick, ME 03901.
