Obituary for Beverly Miller

Beverly Ann Miller passed away peacefully on 2/17/2022 with her loving family by her side. Beverly was born on 6/29/1937 in Summit, NJ and lived in Westfield, NJ until moving to Massachusetts in 1968. She graduated from University of North Carolina, Chappell Hill where she earned a degree in nursing. As an RN, she worked in healthcare her entire career. She taught nursing at the Salter School of Nursing and was Director of Nursing at Thornton nursing home in Northboro, Massachusetts. After reconnecting with her high school sweetheart, James Miller, she moved to Larkspur, CA in 1987 where she lived for thirty years. While in the Bay Area, Beverly remained in the healthcare field working at Bay Pacific and then eventually as a consultant for various HMOs.

Beverly was predeceased by her parents Dorothy Heaton and Lester Heaton, and her husband James E. Miller.

Beverly Ieaves behind three loving children: Gerry Pagano of San Rafael, CA and his wife Annette and son Thomas, Doug Pagano of Aurora, CO and his wife Christy, and their three sons Cooper, Craig and Kyle, and her daughter Lisa Pagano of Kennebunk, ME and her husband Peter. In addition to her children, Bev was loved by her sister-in-law, Joan Stout and her nieces and nephew, Leslie Stout, Susan Stout, Laura Stout and Robert Stout. She also was Nana to James Miller’s two grandchildren, Lucas and Willa Roemer. She also leaves behind her spirited and sassy poodle terrier mix named Lottie.

She had an extremely close connection with her lifelong high school friends and they celebrated their decades of friendship every five years on a friend’s farm in Vermont.

Beverly was a huge sports fan and enjoyed spirited competition between the Tar Heels and Duke (Jim Miller’s Alma mater). We all knew to stay away when those two teams were playing against each other. She also carried the moniker of “Dora Doom” whenever we watched a sporting event with her- “Oh they’re going to lose” was a common utterance.

As her picture suggests, Beverly had a radiant smile, especially when presented with lobster and ice cream.

Beverly had an adventurous spirit, and enjoyed music, theater, and travel. She and Jim were avid fans of the rock group, The Eagles, even traveling to Italy to attend a concert. Every year, they made two cross-country trips, traveling from California to their summer home in Dennis, Massachusetts with many stops along the way to visit family and friends.

A private memorial will take place in Dennis, MA for close family and friends followed by a burial service in New Market, VA.

The family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association: ALZ.ORG
