KENNEBUNK ME
David Cunningham Lessing, 63, of Kennebunk ME and formerly of Melrose MA, passed on Monday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
David was born in Bethesda, MD. He was the son of Frederick James and Mary Cunningham Lessing, and a graduate of Masconomet High School in Boxford, MA. He furthered his education attending Northern Essex Community College, and Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.
He met his wife and best friend Michelle on a ski trip with an outdoor club in 1979. They were happily married for almost 39 years. David was an accomplished tradesman and excelled in a variety of careers. An entrepreneurial spirit shined through as he eventually opened his own business. He took tremendous pride in his work and was always willing to help and encourage others.
David took even greater pride and pleasure being a father. He attended his children's many sporting events as the most conspicuous cheerleader in the stands. He loved watching football, sharing a craft beer with family and friends, and riding his motorcycle. He always had a great knack for bringing a laugh to the room. David's selfless and kind nature will be vividly remembered.
He is survived by his wife Michelle Lessing of Kennebunk ME, son Maxwell Lessing of Groveland MA, daughter Alicia Lessing and her fiancé Sean Settles of Kennebunk, daughter Jaclyn Benson and her husband Jonathan of Groveland MA, and grandson Jonathan David Lessing of Groveland, MA, daughter Merideth Lessing of Kennebunk, brother Jim Lessing, sisters Chris Duffy, Betsy Dailey, Lisa White, Heidi Salvucci, and all his beloved nieces and nephews.
