Obituary for David Weldon Jones

David W. Jones, 78, of Alfred, formerly of Lyman and Kennebunk, entered his eternal home on Sunday, November 6, 2022, surrounded by his family.

David was born June 2, 1944, in Biddeford, ME, the son of Weldon L. and Eleanor B. (Robinson) Jones. He was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, Class of 1962.

After graduation, David joined General Electric in Somersworth, NH, entering the apprenticeship program. It was an intensive 4-year program, which included earning his associate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. David was employed by GE for 19 years before joining Pratt & Whitney of North Berwick, where he worked for 27 years, retiring as a Tool and Gauge Specialist.

David was a member of the Kennebunk Baptist Church for many years before his illness. He was an honorary member of the Kennebunk Fire-Rescue and was one of the first EMT’s licensed in Maine. He also assisted the former Angell Funeral Home and Bibber Memorial Chapel Ambulance services.

Family was first and foremost to David. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever the opportunity presented itself. When time permitted, he loved to hunt and fish, and was a former member of the York County Fish and Game of Lyman.

David was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Thomas. David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sherryl (Ames) Jones of Alfred, and three sons: Mark Jones of Vernon, CT, Brian Jones of Limerick, and Keith Jones of Alfred. He is also survived by three sisters, Cheryl Jalbert of Alfred, Martha Smith of Lyman, and Patricia Jones of Casco, a sister-in-law, Deborah Jones of Shapleigh, 8 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022, in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk, ME.
