Obituary for Edith "Edie" Hall

Edith (Edie) Hall, 94, passed away peacefully at her Lebanon home with her family by her side.

Edith was born June 19, 1927 in Dover, NH to H. Chester Mathews and Lila Corrine (Hanscom) Mathews. She grew up the oldest of six children in North Berwick, Maine. A graduate of North Berwick High she went on to work at Moore’s Business Forms of Dover until a well-earned retirement. Edith married Art Hall and they enjoyed a great life together. The two of them enjoyed life to the fullest on their sail boat Hal-Ed-A. Bowling for years at Dover Bowl, Golf at the Farmington County Club and long walks with her dog Tanya, Edith knew how to keep busy.

When walking into her home you would often be greeted by a smile over her laptop which either had a puzzle or book open, or by a group of her and her friends around the card table. She was a great teacher of the game Cribbage, once you were taught, you were free game and she had no problem skunking you. There was always a candy dish with bullseye caramel candies (and it wasn't an option but to take one) and we loved the call that there was spinach pie for supper with a dessert of punchbowl cake.

She was predeceased by: her son Glenn Jepson of Lebanon, ME; her mother and father; her sisters, Coralee Ross and Althea Cole; and her bothers, Carlton and Bernard Mathews.

She is survived by: her son Jeffrey Russ and his wife Marti of California; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Per Edith’s request there will not be any services. We will have a celebration of life in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Wentworth Hospice Group of Dover, NH in care of Amedisys Foundation, 9 Andrews Road, Somersworth, NH 03878, (603) 692-0200.
