Obituary for Eleanor Mae Findlay (Rasch)

Eleanor Mae Findlay (Rasch)
Eleanor Mae Findlay, 95 years, of Kennebunk died January 29, 2021 peacefully at home with family members present.

Eleanor was born March 22, 1925 in Toledo, OH. She graduated from High School in Toledo and went on to attend college in Detroit MI. She worked as an executive secretary for A&P Supermarket Corporation in the early 1950’s and met Ronald R. Findlay, whom she married, settling in Allen Park MI where they started their family. The family later lived in Muncie IN, Augusta ME, Winona MN, Greenfield MA, Northfield MA, and finally Kennebunkport ME in 1979 after raising their sons. Following her husband’s death in 1988, she moved to Kennebunk ME, where she resided happily for 28 years until her death.

Eleanor greatly enjoyed living in Southern Maine and became very active in the York County community. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at Laudholm Farm. She was an avid amateur birder and loved leading people on the trails around Laudholm and pointing out the wildlife on the property. She enjoyed the beauty of nature and was a member of the Kennebunk Gardening Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was very independent, including driving into her 95th year. Most importantly, Eleanor loved being a mother and grandmother, and loved the visits and phone calls from her sons and family.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, in 1988 and by her brothers, Raymond, Richard and Arnold Rasch; and her sisters, an infant girl and Irene Kozlowski; and her granddaughter, Jenna Menon.

She is very dearly remembered by her sons, R. Craig Findlay and his wife, Elaine, of Yarmouth, ME and Brian R. Findlay and his wife, Marcia, of Pepperell, MA; four grandchildren, Jessica Ashley, Robert Findlay, Katelyn Findlay and Claire Findlay; and four great grandchildren, Julian, Oscar, Jada and Leo.

Friends may visit from 1-2 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2 pm with Rev. Carolyn Lambert. Due to Covid-19 regulations, the service will be limited to 50 people in the building.
