Obituary for Francis F. Daily Jr.

DATELINE: WAKEFIELD, MA AND KENNEBUNKPORT, ME

Francis F. Daily, Jr., 92 years, of Wakefield, MA, formerly of Kennebunkport, ME, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in Melrose, MA.

Francis was born in Arlington, MA on May 16, 1930 to Francis, Sr. and Helen (Lynch) Daily. He attended Boston College before graduating from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD with a degree in theology and philosophy. He taught in Toms River, NJ where he met his future bride. He went on to serve as a guidance counselor at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, CT for over 20 years. He retired and moved on to become principal of St. Thomas Aquinas school in Fairfield, CT.

Francis married Rose in 1972, and they remained together over 50 years until his death. They raised a family in Fairfield, CT before retiring in Kennebunkport, ME. There, he spent his time driving the Kennebunkport In-Town trolley, watching Red Sox baseball, and being active in the Knights of Columbus. He loved to travel and take walks, particularly along the coast at Goose Rocks Beach. Francis was an avid reader of history, a beloved lector at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk, ME (and later at St. Joseph’s Parish in Wakefield) and enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with his family and friends.

Francis was predeceased by his parents, Francis, Sr. and Helen, and by his sister, Helen Stanton.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose (Misciagna) Daily; his daughter, Sunny Daily and her husband, Greg; Elizabeth Daily Ortega and her husband, Jose; his son, Francis Joseph Daily and his grandchildren, Caillean, Orion, Goshi, Ellie, Braelyn, Reilly, Idalence, Alina; his sister, Mary Neylon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 3-7 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by his cousin, Fr. Vincent Daily, will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Martha's Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, ME. Per the family's request, masks will be required for attendance at both the visiting hours and mass.

Private Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Francis' honor to Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104.
