Jesse.....KJHS

I first met Mr. Evangelou my first day of school in September of 1964 at Keene Junior High School when I was a 7th grader.  Mr. Evangelou was my Home Room teacher.  He was organized, funny and, for a new student like me as I went to Wheelock School through 6th grade, he made all the students feel welcome and helped me figure out where my classes were and how to get to them in that BIG building with the "up" and "down" stairways.

Fast forward to September of 1974 when I began my teaching career at KJHS, Mr. Evangelou was now Jesse to me.  It felt strange at first but....only that first day.  Jesse helped me feel welcomed again....just as he did back in 1964.

In 1974, Ken Menard taught at KJHS but he also was the KHS boys varsity basketball coach.  I had played basketball and baseball for Ken when I went to KHS.  Ken hired me in 1974 to coach the 8th grade boys basketball team.  I remember Jesse and Bob Hall would referee all my afternoon home games then Jesse and Bob would go to Hinsdale those same evenings to referee Robin Beauregard's boys Varsity basketball games.  As I understand it Robin would invite Jesse and Bob over to his house after the varsity game to share in some 'beverages' and talk basketball and sports.

i will miss Jesse.  He was a mentor for me when I was a student, teacher and coach at KJHS.
