DATELINE - MOODY BEACH, ME
John A. Anderson, 88, of Moody Beach, ME passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was born in New Haven, CT on January 4, 1934, a son of August and Bridget (Moriarty) Anderson.
John graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, CT and then served in the US Army for three years. After his service he continued his education, graduating from St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. John also earned a Master’s degree in theology from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA.
Following college John taught school in the Manchester area, bought and operated Fitzpatrick Printers in Manchester, and then began a long career as a sales executive working for many companies including Professional Disposable International and Professional Medical Products, where he worked more than twenty years.
John was a member of Manchester Country Club, Cape Neddick Country Club, and the Knights of Columbus. As a proud St. Anselm’s alumnus, John was a member of St. Anselm’s President’s Cabinet and a Golden Anselmian.
John was a long-time resident of Manchester, NH before retiring to Moody Beach, ME in 2003. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Parish in Manchester, NH and was active in the parish and served as one of the first Eucharistic ministers.
In his free time, John loved being with his immediate and extended family. He loved his time on Moody Beach, ME and Holden Beach, NC and enjoyed getting back to New Haven, CT when he could. Picking up golf later in life, he loved golfing with friends and especially his grandsons at Cape Neddick Country Club. He was a devoted member of the St. Mary’s Church Community in Wells, ME.
John is predeceased by his sisters, Lillian Weidner, Marion (Bettye) Donovan, Margaret Kent, and Patricia Anderson, and his brothers, George (Bill) Anderson, Harold Anderson, and Dennis Anderson.
John’s wife of 62 years, Joan E. Anderson, predeceased him August 24,2019 and he missed her dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen (Anderson) Grade of Falmouth, ME; his son, John A. Anderson, Jr. of Portsmouth, NH; and two grandchildren, Jake Armstrong Grade and Alexander Vincent Grade.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME.
