Obituary for Laurel Ann Volpe (Edwards)

Laurel Ann Volpe died unexpectedly at her home in Arundel, Maine on Sunday, December 3, 2023, age 77 years. She was born in Winchester, Mass and later was a resident of Pembroke, Mass for 35 years, before moving to Maine in 2011.

She was the daughter of the late J. Douglas and Lois Barnard Edwards. Laurel studied at Bay Path Junior College and at Bryant and Stratton College. She was a former Senior Systems Programmer/Analyst at American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield, Mass.

She was the most beloved and cherished wife of 51 years of Louis F. Volpe, whom she left far too soon. She was also a loving aunt to Michael S., Richard J., Glenn and Wendy Volpe. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ann (Volpe) O’Meara and nieces Maureen O’Meara and Laura O’Meara Lowell of Maine.

She was predeceased by: brother and sister-in-law, Michael A. and Ann Marie Volpe of Mt. Kisco, New York; brother-in-law, Guy L. Volpe; brother-in-law, Christopher J. O’Meara; and very best friend, Marie “Mimi” Christensen of Hanover, Mass.

Laurel was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved riding her bike. Being an adventurous person, she also took up rollerblading. Through night classes and self study, she became fluent in ASL in order to communicate with her friends in the deaf community. She loved horses and often donated her time working at a local stable. She was an excellent cook and made a cheesecake, top quality.

Laurel was a most loving wife with a beautiful heart and soul, always ready with a warm smile. Her last act of love was saving her husband’s life by summoning immediate medical attention to a severe life-threatening condition only 8 days before she passed. She was not only the love of my life, but my life.

Funeral services will be scheduled for a future date in the coming spring. All invitees will be notified.
