Obituary

Louise Braun, 93 years, a resident of Saco, formerly of Kennebunk, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at The Landing at Saco Bay after a long-term illness.

She was born in San Giacomo di Veglia, Italy on October 31, 1925, a daughter of Ulysses and Maria (Giacomini) Marin. She attended school in Italy until the 8th grade and then went to work at the town hall as a secretary for over seven years.

After WWII, she moved to Switzerland to find work and there she met Frank Xavier Braun Sr. of Degersheim, Switzerland. In 1952 they were married in Italy and moved to the United States. They raised their children in Kennebunk, Maine and celebrated 56 years of marriage together.

Louise loved to cook, be outdoors, and was a walker around her neighborhood. She could frequently be seen riding her bicycle around the beach and bridle path with her grandchildren. Returning yearly to Italy, Louise enjoyed traveling and visiting with her family. She was also a member of St. Martha's Church in Kennebunk.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Xavier Braun, Sr. in 2009, a brother, Antonio Marin, and a sister, Mary Bolzan.

Louise is survived by her son, Frank X. Braun, Jr. and his wife Nancy Braun of Warren, ME; a daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Merrow and her husband Wescott "Ross" Merrow of Kennebunkport, ME; grandchildren; Kristi Braun, Alison Braun, Anna Phillips and her husband Ross Phillips, Thomas Merrow, great grandaughter, Arianna Hendron, and close family members, Bernadine Braun, Helen Loos and her husband James Ferguson, as well as several nieces and nephews in Italy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Atria, The Landing at Saco Bay, and Beacon Hospice for their exemplary care of Louise over the last few years.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Holy Spirit Parish—St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Rd, Kennebunk. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

I will always remember her calling me her grandson and teaching me the Italian language and singing songs with me. I will never forget her and her sweet laughter and she knew always how to enlighten my day. My condolences to Frank and his family and “Lizzie” and her family. Thank you for letting me meet your mother and learn things from her, RIP Luisa.
