Obituary for Mabel T. Desmarais (Dewire)

Mabel T. Desmarais, 80, formerly of Biddeford and Florida, passed away Thursday evening, September 29, 2022 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford surrounded by her family.
Mabel was born in York, the daughter of Alexander Joseph and Dorothy Sargent Dewire and is a graduate of Sanford High School. She went on to attend Gorham State Teachers College.
With a heart for young children, she began her long career with York County Community Action working in their Head Start program for 43 years, retiring in 2011 as Director of the program. She loved nothing more than reading to a group of 4-year old’s or spending the day reading at the beach.
She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Raymond A. Desmarais in 2018, and siblings, John H Chenard and Jean E Johnson.
Survivors include her son Brian Desmarais (Laura), daughter Beth Madore (Bruce) all of Kennebunk, grandchildren Molly, Brittany, Brianna, Nicholas, and several nieces and nephews.
A family celebration will be held next summer when all can gather. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to York County Head Start. Donations can be made online at https://yccac.org/donate/
