Obituary for Mark C. Dufoe

Mark Dufoe, 64 of Kennebunkport, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2022 of natural causes while mowing the lawn. Mark was born on March 31, 1958 in Nashua, NH to Charles and Betty (Daniels) Dufoe. He grew up in Manchester, NH and went to Manchester West High School. Mark married April (Ridlon), his “love, warden and minister of finance” and moved to Kennebunkport shortly after the wedding. He was working as an electrician when he started his 33 year career at KLPD, first as a lineman and for the last 15 years as line foreman. After retiring from KLPD, he worked at RSU 21 as a school bus driver (Bus #10).

Mark and April had one daughter, Raven, who was the light of Mark’s life. Raven and her family lived next door and shared daily memories with Mark. Mark helped Raven build her house and was currently building a playroom for his grandchildren in her basement.

When Mark was at KLPD, he learned the value of community service. He would do anything for anyone and never expected anything in return. He did because he could. He was on the Board of Atlantic Hall for many years and was the general contractor of the Lobster Trap Tree for over 25 years. That tree was his “baby”, and allowed him to become locally and nationally recognized (with his debut on HGTV). His daughter and son-in-law were gently persuaded and subcontracted with the annual construction, and plan to carry on the tradition with generous continued help from the Cape Porpoise community.

Mark was living his life to the fullest. Besides helping people, his other passion was music. Over the last 12 years he played in many bands and duos with very talented musicians. He loved playing at local venues and entertaining his friends and total strangers alike. He loved to ski at Sunday River and boat around Kennebunkport. He was frequently seen walking the dog (his buddy Murphy) around Cape Porpoise. Mark always had a smile on his face and a good joke or story to tell. There was never a dull moment with him, whether he knew you for years or he just met you.

Mark was predeceased by his father, Charles Dufoe, his mother, Betty Dufoe and his dachshund, Bailey.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, April, his daughter Raven Fulford of Kennebunkport and her husband Jonathan and their children Winslow and Murray. He is also survived by his 3 sisters, Gale Cheever and her husband Peter of New Boston, NH, Lynn Fontaine and her husband Stephen of Conway, SC and Lori Laventure and her husband Kent of Manchester, NH. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Murphy and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Sunday, August 14th from 1pm-5pm in the field along Cape Porpoise Harbor at 9 Pier Road. Musical entertainment will be provided by the friends he has played and performed with over the years. Bring your own chairs and refreshments and enjoy the company and music.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Porpoise Lobster Trap Tree Preservation Fund. Donations will go towards purchasing much needed new traps in order to safely keep the tradition alive.
