Condolence: There were two periods to our relationship. First at Elmhurst College as a teacher and mentor. The second, so much later and wonderful when our lives crossed once more over the distance between Illinois and Maine. You made me want to be a better writer and a better person. I wish it could have been forever.

Condolence: Michael was such a wise, generous, playful, and loving soul. I have so many memories of us conversing, laughing, and sharing poems from our 20-plus year friendship. He has inspired me, I hope, to become both a better person and poet and to see my life should be the ultimate attempt at a work of art. My condolences to all who knew him and loved him.

Condolence From: John H Hackett
Condolence: My deepest condolences. I was so saddened to see that Michael had passed. He and I became quite friendly over at Quest. He found out I coached youth sports and we'd always talk about how much fun it is to be around kids. Always enjoyed our conversations.

Condolence: Dearest Suzanne,

We share a sense of loss at Michael’s passing. He was truly a man for all seasons. We shall miss him, knowing he has moved on. With his poetic sense, we feel sure he would see the wisdom in that, all the same - and have had a wry and witty comment, as well.

Much love and our sincere condolences,
Jane and Bob

Condolence: From all of us here at the Brick Store Museum - we are incredibly saddened by the loss of our friend Michael and send our best wishes to Suzanne. Michael was an amazing person who always brightened the day with a smile, joke, or a good word. We will miss seeing Michael at the Museum and hearing his stories, that were seemingly unending from a life well-lived. Until we meet again! - The Brick Store Museum team

Condolence: Susan,
Just read Michael's obituary in the Portland Press Herald and wanted to convey my heartfelt sympathy to you. Seeing both of you at a recent book review at Graves Library will leave me with many pleasant memories. By best to you.
