Obituary for Nancy D. Libby (Davis)

Nancy Davis Libby, a longtime resident of Kennebunk, passed away on March 2, 2021.

Nancy was born on May 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Robert Tenney Davis and Lucy (Lizott) Davis,and sister of the late Lt. Ray Charles Holt.

Nancy attended Kennebunk High School, Class of 1948, graduated from Rogers Hall School, Bradford Jr. College, and Tufts University in 1952.

Nancy was a member of the Nashua Symphony Choral Society, a charter member of the Arundel Yankee Belles Sweet Adelines chorus and for many years sang bass in the popular, award- winning Pretty Sharps barbershop quartet.

In the 1970’s Nancy opened The Crimson Cricket antiques shop on Alewive Road, Kennebunk, and also participated in several antique co-ops.

In 1993, she coordinated the Books On Call and Special Services program, at the Kennebunk Free Library, for the delivery of reading materials to homebound residents of the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel area.

Nancy traveled extensively throughout Maine to introduce the Books On Call program to many libraries. She received the Starfish award for her volunteer work in this field. Although she retired as coordinator in 2003, Nancy continued to volunteer for the library for many years.

She was a devoted volunteer for 15 years at Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families, in Casco, Maine.

Proud of her Maine heritage, Nancy loved the outdoors, camping, climbing, hiking, gardening and especially her long association with Camp Wyonegonic, Denmark, Maine.

Nancy was a respected member of the Church on the Cape for many years, serving on numerous committees, boards and functions.

A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, best known as “Ma”, she loved her family intensely and was a loyal supporter of all their ventures.

She was on the scene, in all kinds of weather, cheering at their athletic events and was proud of all their accomplishments.

Nancy had many missions helping others; a caring, compassionate lady, always with a positive attitude and bright smile.

Her beloved family includes sons: Hans Robert Meier and his wife Deb L. Meier; Rolf J. Meier and wife Andrea J. Meier; daughter, Wendy T. Thompson and husband David M. Thompson.

Beloved Grandchildren Jillian L. Hoffman and her husband Graham D. Hoffman, Emily T. Kessel, Hans Randall (Randy) Meier, and Garrett Ray Meier; great grandchildren Ryder G. Hoffman and Reece M. Hoffman.

Private Services will be held at a later date. Her ashes are to be scattered, per her wishes.
