Obituary for Paul E. Schumacher III

Paul E. Schumacher III, formerly of 257 Wakelee Avenue in Ansonia, CT, also known as "Butch" or "Shoes", entered peacefully into eternal rest on October 11, 2022 at the age of 65 at his home in Maine, surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on November 30, l956, the first son of the late Paul E. Schumacher Jr. and the late Virginia Ann Galligan of Ansonia, CT.

As a young boy, he participated in Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball. He was also a member of the Young Marines and Scouts. At the age of 11 he had a paper route that he passed down to his younger siblings.

In his junior year of high school, he went to Boy's State and graduated with honors from Ansonia High School in l974. He attended Sacred Heart University. He was employed by Griffin Hospital during high school and later began a 32 year career as a Steelworker at The American Brass Company in Ansonia, CT. He was a shop steward and vocal advocate for all his co-workers as a member of the American Steelworkers Union.

He served as an Alderman on the Board of Alderman in Ansonia from December of 1991 through December of l997, when he acquired the nickname "Mayor of the West Side". He was an avid supporter of all the Ansonia teams and athletes. He was a member of The Norwood Athletic Club and The Ansonia Boosters. He was a long-time member of the United Way. He loved sports and all sport related statistics, and he was a lifetime major fan of The New York Yankees and The New York Giants.

Paul was predeceased by two siblings by marriage, Martin Stahl and Mary (Stahl) Rosebrock.

He leaves to cherish his memory and all his stories, his nine loving siblings, Kathleen (Rick), Virginia, Peter (Cynthia), Gregory (Peggy), Lisa, Rene', Sarah, Christopher and Hilary. He also leaves behind Sharon and Michael Stahl (Pam), his siblings by marriage. Sharon was instrumental in providing care for him when he was ill. He also leaves behind his 22 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews, as well as his ex-wife, Karen. Butch was good to all of his many friends and family and co-workers, and he especially loved his nieces and nephews. He was always looking out for the underdog. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He was a good brother and a warm friend to all with a big heart. He was also very humorous. We will all miss him greatly!. Rest in heavenly peace sweet brother!

His family will be having a private memorial service for him in Berwick, Maine, on Thanksgiving weekend. A Christian memorial service will be announced at a later date at the discretion of the family.
