Obituary for Phyllis B. Agnew

Phyllis B. Agnew, 96, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2021.

Phyllis was born in Holland, Michigan on April 13, 1924 to Peter H. and Jeanne Boven. One of six children, she graduated from Michigan State University and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Chicago (now Rush University, College of Nursing) in 1946.

She also married Louis D. Scott that year, and they had four children. While raising her children as a devoted mother and homemaker, Phyllis enjoyed reading, cooking, entertaining and traveling. In 1979, Phyllis married George B. Agnew, Jr. in Greenwich, CT, and moved to John’s Island in Indian River Shores, FL and eventually to Oak Harbor. Phyllis and George spent their summers in Kennebunkport, ME, where they were members of the Kennebunk River Club, the Arundel Yacht Club and the Arundel Beach Club, in addition to remaining active members of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Kennebunkport, ME.

Known as “Bammi” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her close friends, Phyllis will be remembered as a lovely lady, who enjoyed, above all, spending time with her family and friends in both Vero Beach and Kennebunkport.

Phyllis is survived by her four children, Janis Perrault, Michael Scott, Patricia Webster (son-in-law, Edward) and Margaret Griswold; her five grandchildren, Alexandra Richardson, Edward Webster Jr., Meredith Vornholt, Peter Wittman Jr. and Christopher Wittman; and her five great-grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Willis, Everett and Lincoln.
A service will be held in celebration of Phyllis’ life this summer at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport, ME.
