Obituary for Richard Joseph Dumais

Richard Joseph Dumais, of Dayton, ME, passed away on September 29, 2023. He was 83 years of age.

Richard was born in Biddeford, ME on June 1, 1940, to Alphee and Arlene (Inniss) Dumais. He graduated from Biddeford High School and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country for four years before transferring to the Naval Reserves in 1962.

Richard pursued a career in metal fabrication, managing the operation of Prescott Metal until he fulfilled a dream to retire on a farm raising Belted Galloway cows. During his retirement he also drove for and made many friends while working for Enterprise.

Among his interests were cruising car shows, creative metal fabrication, landscaping his property with his wife, Annette, farming, and playing and watching tennis. He enjoyed long car rides exploring New England in his ‘46 Ford convertible with Annette. He also volunteered his time in Southern Maine Medical Center’s gift shop in Biddeford.

Richard is predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annette M. (Cote) Dumais; his sister, Constance Souliere; his son, Christopher Dumais; his daughter, Jennifer Hatch and her fiancée, Mark Piispanen; his daughter, Gretchen Kelly and her husband, Scott; his five grandchildren – Benjamin Hatch, Nathan Hatch, Matthew Hatch, Alexis Kelly, Scott Kelly, Jr.; two nieces, Cindy Wescott and Caryn Godin; and two nephews, Randy Souliere and Ricky Souliere.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Southern Maine Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery in Springvale, ME.
