Obituary for Robert Stephen Flagg

Robert Stephen Flagg, age 70, of Wells, passed away on July 13, 2022. He was born in Portland Maine on May 11, 1952, the son of Floyd and Pauline Flagg.

Robert was born in Portland Maine, a city very close to his heart. He loved his hometown and the many landmarks he frequented (J’s Oyster Bar, Angelone’s, Amato’s, Payson Park, Deering Oaks, Becky’s, Parker’s, the Old Port, the American Legion plus many more). Robert was an Army Reservist Specialist Electrical Engineer for 5 years. He was highly involved with the Portland Men’s Softball League as a coach and lead umpire for 45 teams. He was an avid flea market attendee selling sports memorabilia and sports cards. He loved family time with his 9 siblings at Sunday dinners enjoying his mom’s down east cooking (pot roast and dumplings with cherry pie to follow).

Robert left Portland for Land O’ Lakes Florida where he resided for 5 years to get away from the harsh cold winters of Maine. He later decided to come back to be with his son, daughter, and grandchildren. We can’t remember a day of him missing one of the grandkids’ sporting events when he was healthy. He loved being at games, conversing with the parents and cheering the kids on. You could find him any given night on the sidelines cheering the warriors to victory. He was a hardcore Wells Warrior fan who always had his gear on and was ready to go.

He randomly stopped in for dinners at his children’s houses. We weren’t sure which house he would end up at. If he went to Jenny’s house, he knew he would get takeout and at Gregory’s would get a home cooked meal. Robert loved Litchfield’s in Wells. He made many buddies and was always there to be a part of the events like the ugly sweater contests and trivia nights. He loved Wells Beach where he would sit in his car in the morning drinking coffee and reading the Portland Press Herald.

Bobby will be remembered as a dedicated father and grandfather and his love of New England Sports. He touched many lives in his journey through life.

Robert was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Charlie Flagg of Illinois, Carol Young of South Carolina, Elizabeth Flagg of Virginia, Barbara Melideo of Massachusetts, Richard Alan Flagg of Saco and Margaret McCullough of Old Orchard Beach.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Flagg Copper of Wells; son, Gregory Flagg and his wife Karen of Wells; his grandchildren, Matthew, Jackson, Lucas and Gracey; his siblings, William Flagg of Westbrook, John Flagg of Florida and Patty McGehan of Old Orchard Beach along with many other relatives and friends.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 20th from 4-5:45 pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road Wells followed by a service at 5:45 pm at the Chapel. After the service, there will be a celebration of life at Litchfield’s Restaurant, 2135 Post Rd, Wells from 7-9 pm.
