Shirley M. Burgess, 95, passed away early Saturday morning, November 9, 2019 at Evergreen Manor, after almost a two-year battle with dementia.
She was born in Lewiston, ME on April 14, 1924, the daughter of Vernon Marshal Ervine and Dorothy Elizabeth (Fothergill) Ervine.
She attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1941. After graduation, she and her mother moved to Biddeford, ME and started working in local factories. She also resided in Arundel and West Kennebunk for a number of years eventually she met the love of her life, Tom, through mutual friends.
On January 12, 1963, they were married at St. Mary’s Church in Biddeford. She retired in 1986 from Herman Shoe in Scarborough. Upon retirement, she enjoyed just being with her family, especially her grandchildren of which she loved very much.
She loved taking care of her pets and watching TV. Shirley was one of a kind and will be sadly missed by so many.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Burgess, in 2000 and her great grandson, J.T. Goulette, in 2013.
She is survived by one daughter, Kelly Landry and husband, Norman of Kennebunk, and two sons, Craig Burgess and wife, Sandra of Kennebunk and Lee Burgess of Sanford: grandchildren, Shawn, Josh & Emily Anthony, and Jessica and great grandchildren, Tylar, Daniel, Camden, Alexis, Logan, Jackson, and Kane.
We would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Manor and Hospice for taking such good care of Shirley and loving her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the convenience of the family.
