Obituary for Suzanne Carol Perkins

Suzanne Carol Pitcher Perkins of Cape Porpoise, ME, passed away on May 17, 2021, following the passing of Henry, her loving husband of 62 years. As an only child, she was born to Evadna Waner Pitcher and Leland Kenneth Pitcher on August 14, 1936.

Suzanne grew up in Scotia, NY, and graduated from Scotia High School Class of 1954. She then graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. She and Henry were married in 1958. When Henry was in the United States Air Force stationed in Oxford, England, she became secretary to the Director of Comptroller and then the Base Commander. Upon Henry’s separation from the military service, they both worked at WSAV in Savannah, GA – Suzanne as secretary to the Radio Advertising Manager, Henry in Television Engineering. After three years, when Henry went on to the ABC News Bureau in Washington, DC, she spent sixteen years at a large land use law firm in Silver Spring, MD, as legal secretary to two firm partners. During this time, she and Henry lived in Gaithersburg, MD.

They retired in 1998 and moved to their beloved Maine into a beautiful log home in Cape Porpoise. Suzanne volunteered at Cape Porpoise Library for six years and then became Library Director in 2004 to 2016. During this period, she also volunteered at Harvest Café and Kennebunkport Historical Society. Henry and Suzanne loved to travel and took cruises to many ports of the world.

Suzanne is predeceased by her husband, Henry Perkins, sister-in-law Elizabeth Perkins Milligan, brothers-in-law Jonathan Milligan, Carl Tarr, Bernard Kenney, and Norman Perkins; nieces Lisa Kenney and Nancy Milligan.

She is survived by her two children: daughter Kristen Arthurs (Michael) of Folsom, CA; granddaughter Avery Arthurs and grandson Alec Arthurs; son Mark Perkins (Jennifer) of Smithsburg, MD; sisters-in-law Mary Jean Tarr of Palm Harbor, FL; Priscilla Kenney of Alfred, ME; and many nieces and nephews.
