Thomas Patrick Golden, 80, of Ogunquit, Maine left us suddenly on Thursday, March 25, 2021.
Tom was born February 5, 1941 in Flushing, NY. His passion for the outdoors and his ability to easily befriend the people around him touched many lives during his time with us. A born connector, Tom’s natural ability to pinpoint subjects of common interest will be missed by all who knew and loved him. While we mourn this great loss, we take solace in the understanding that his appreciation for nature and zest for life will endure in the lives of all who knew him.
Tom married Michele Gonzales on December 6, 1969 in Sharon, MA after meeting at the Linderhof in Glen, NH, where they were members of the Penguins Ski Club. They soon relocated to Ogunquit, ME where their two children were raised and Tom's career in the molded rubber industry took off.
In 1980, Tom accepted an opportunity to become the President of RPP Corporation in Lawrence, MA. He thrived in the business world and enjoyed taking care of his customers and employees. Tom and Michele's entrepreneurial spirit led them to acquire and run The Country Squire motel in Ogunquit for 19 years and true to Tom's nature, guests at the motel felt like they were part of the family. During that time, Tom became a Manufacturing Representative with The Rubber Group of Rochester, NH in 2003. He then transitioned to consulting for The Rubber Group in 2012. Tom’s jobs took him all over the world where he established lifelong friendships with his colleagues and the people he mentored.
An avid sportsman, Tom was most alive skiing in the mountains, fishing on a river, or hunting in the woods. Whether it was pheasant hunting with his much loved Weimaraner Baron or fishing in his canoe, Tom freely shared his enthusiasm for outdoor adventures with family and friends alike. He loved ski racing and was a huge supporter of so many young ski racers, especially his own. Tom’s skiing legacy is woven into the fabric of New England ski lore and he will be warmly remembered by many as they “Take a run for Tom”.
He has enjoyed his semi-retirement skiing and fishing with Michele and spending memorable times with his daughters, sons-in-law, and four grandchildren. A devoted husband and father, his family became his lifelong source of love and pride.
Tom will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife and best friend of 51 years Michele Golden; daughter Tara Patten and son-in-law Rob Patten of Rye, NH; daughter Amanda Monson and son-in-law Doug Monson of Cape Elizabeth, ME; grandchildren Anya Monson, Porter Monson, Charlie Patten, and Rowan Patten.
At this time there will be a private family gathering to remember Tom but when it is safe to do so, we will have a celebration of Tom’s life for all. We ask for friends and family to please share a memory of Tom on his Book of Memories page at www.bibbermemorial.com.
