Thomas (Todd) Joseph Kezar, 70 of Cape Porpoise, lost his battle with ALS April 23rd, journeying home to be with the Lord, joining his parents Thomas F. Kezar and Josephine D’Ascanio Kezar. Growing up here on the ocean, he loved to fish. After completing school, he spent a couple of years fishing and scalloping up and down the Atlantic coastline. He decided he loved this work, his surroundings, his hometown, the fishing communities, and the people he met, so he stayed. He started his own business, finding his niche traveling up and down the New England shoreline supplying bait to the lobster boats. This was his passion for forty five years. He was proud of his successful business, and he had a deep admiration and great respect for those he worked with, making many long lasting friendships. He was always sadly quiet when any fishing boat was lost at sea. Fishing and family days skirting the outer islands in their boat were some of his many pleasures.
Todd was also drawn to the inland beauty of the Maine woods. He enjoyed skiing, fishing and hunting with his “buddies”. He and Lynn loved being at their camp on a quiet pond snowmobiling winters, and four-wheeling summers. He loved being outdoors, their mining adventures, picking blueberries on Mt. Marie, more fishing, canoeing, and campfires. He had a great admiration for wildlife and appreciated the beauty of his surroundings and enjoyed the people there. This was their “stress free zone”.
Todd never found time to be idle, bored or grumble about anything. He was an avid reader, loved music (especially Bluegrass), a funny storyteller, with humor inherited from his father. Like both parents he dabbled in watercolors. He enjoyed gardening and working outside. He had many interests and always had a project going. He missed nothing, could do anything, and fully enjoyed life. However, as busy as he managed to stay, he always had time to help someone, friend or stranger. He was an exceptional man, truly kind, generous, and courageous. We are all proud and lucky to have had him in our lives. He would tell you he had a truly blessed life: his faith, loving family and his friends. He leaves his wife Lynn, his children Amanda, Brian, Alexandra (Lexy), sister Jovanna and her husband John Paré. Also, many relatives and devoted, caring friends who were in constant touch. They boosted his spirits, cheered him on, made him laugh, and offered encouragement and support. Dave Baker, one of his hunting and fishing buddies for forty years came every single day to keep him company. We thank Pastor Joe from the Village Baptist Church who was always there for spiritual support. It is with heavy hearts and the feeling of helplessness that we had to let him go. Todd will never be far from our thoughts, always in our hearts.
Should friends desire, a memorial donation may be made to the ALS Association, Northern New England Chapter. Visitation will be Thursday, April 29th, 5pm - 7pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.
