Obituary for William H. O'Connell

William H. O’Connell, recently of Kennebunk, ME and previously of Bedford, MA, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. He was 92 years of age.

William was born in Boston, MA on July 27, 1930, to William and Anna (Singer) O’Connell. He graduated from Wayland High School in Wayland, MA and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Boston University. He also served his country during the Korean War as an Ensign for the US Navy.

Throughout his years of employment, William was laser-focused on building relationships in order to assist others in gaining employment. To further that aim, in 1962 he founded a placement consulting firm, SEEC, Inc. By contracting with many large businesses such as Raytheon and Honeywell, SEEC was able to procure for those companies some of the most talented engineers, executives, and consultants in their respective fields. SEEC was an organization that was highly respected and known for its exceptional integrity, a testament to William’s dedication to his trade. In line with his professional accomplishments, was also a member of the National Personnel Associates and the Massachusetts Professional Placement Consultants.

In 1968, William married the love of his life, Jane E. Hunt. They remained happily married for 50 years until the time of her passing in 2018.

A fiercely loyal and loving friend, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and New England Patriots fan, William was known for his great sense of humor, his generosity, and his compassion. He was a highly intelligent and even-tempered man who loved to read and loved to travel. He enjoyed more leisurely pursuits as well, including his time spent on the golf course or engaged in a game of cribbage. He will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane O’Connell; his parents, William and Anna O’Connell; his sister, Barbara O’Connell; his son, Daniel McDevitt; and his daughter, Kathleen McDevitt Legere.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan McDevitt; his granddaughter, Emma K. Bean and her husband, Chris; his grandson, Ryan C. Church and his fiancée, Jordan; his great-grandchildren, Julia and Jackson Bean; his brother, Lawrence B. O’Connell and his wife, Susan; his brother, Robert O’Connell and his wife, Dorothy; his daughter-in-law, Audrey McDevitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no services planned at this time. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Lexington, MA in spring of 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to Northern Light Hospice, 50 Foden Rd Suite 1, South Portland, ME 04106.
