Obituary for Marilyn Rita O'Reilly (Byrne)

Marilyn Rita O’Reilly, 77, of Wells, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on Long Island, New York on May 20, 1935, a daughter of Edwin and Marion Rita (Reid) Byrne. Marilyn married Donald O’Reilly on April 14, 1967. She fell in love with the coast of Maine while vacationing here with her family and eventually moved to Maine.

Marilyn was a homemaker. For a period of her life, she worked as a companion to the elderly, enabling them to continue living independently.

Marilyn loved swimming in the ocean and walking her dog along the beach. A devout Catholic, she enjoyed attending Mass at the Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Donald O’Reilly; three sons, John Hopkins of Gloucester, MA; Stephen Hopkins and his wife Megan of Cape Neddick; Christopher Hopkins and his wife Madeleine of Wells; her daughter, Marion Skog of Oregon; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

In keeping with Marilyn’s wishes, services will be private.
