Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Hunt

Dover, NH, Falmouth Heights, MA, and Dedham, MA

Mary Elizabeth Hunt, 59 years, of Dover, NH, formerly a long time resident of Dedham and Falmouth Heights, MA, died May 10, 2017 at Hyder Hospice House in Dover, NH following a long period of declining health.

Mary was born September 9, 1957 in Boston, MA a daughter of Francis and Barbara (Norton) Hunt. She grew up in Dedham, MA and graduated from Dedham High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Mary was a sales executive for the Boston Globe Classifieds for 25 years. She was active in Democratic politics, campaigning for Congressman Joe Moakley for 2 decades and a Dedham Town Meeting member.

Mary was an avid sailor and longtime member of the Falmouth Yacht Club and 1974 Regatta Champion. Besides sailing, Mary loved motorcycling, Foxwoods, collecting toys, fried clams, crab bakes, Disney and cribbage. During an intense game of cribbage, 6 firefighters walked in the front door and asked what the medical emergency was. One EMT found her dog, Gus, chewing on her alert bracelet on the couch.

Mary enjoyed riding the roads of life and especially her bucket list biker ride last fall with her good friend, Mark Gauthier. With an escort of 7 bikes, they cruised Hampton Beach and watched as the moon came up over the ocean. She truly treasured that day. On May 10th, she took her final ride right to heaven.

Mary is survived by her brother, Francis A. Hunt, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Chesapeake,VA; her nephew, Patrick F. Hunt of Norfolk, VA; her niece, Kaitlin J. Hunt and husband, Kyle Kuznof-Dineen, of Cincinatti, OH; her cousin and best friend, Kathy Breen; her nurse Danielle Marie Breton; her dear friends, Carolyn Carroll and Jane Hopewood; and her beloved dogs, Bella the angel dog and Gus the devil dog.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 5 to 6:30 at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 162 Agamenticus Road, South Berwick, ME. Interment will be held at Brookdale Cemetery, Brookdale Ave, Dedham, MA on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12 noon. A memorial mass will be held on Sunday, August 27 at 10 am at St. Thomas Chapel, Grand Avenue, Falmouth Heights, MA.
