Ronald Raymond “Ron” Cheney, 62, of Wells, died early Wednesday morning, July 12, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a brave struggle with cancer. He was born in Dover, NH on July 22, 1954, a son of Raymond H. and Yvonne (Lavigne) Cheney. Ron grew up in South Berwick, where he attended St. Michaels Catholic school. He graduated from Marshwood High School, Class of 1972, and went on to attend Central Maine Technical College in Auburn, ME. Following school, he worked at several auto dealerships.

Ron was a talented auto technician and he enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical. He enjoyed and participated in several forms of auto racing. When not working, he enjoyed nature, boating, fishing, spending time near the ocean, and annual camping trips with Deborah. Ron also enjoyed hand building canoes.

He is predeceased by his parents, and by his brother Bruce.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Deborah Cheney of Wells; his son, Daniel Ronald Cheney of North Attleboro, MA; two grandsons, Caleb Daniel Cheney and Joshua Andrew Cheney; his niece, Shannon Brown.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, with a burial at 2:00 p.m. in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
