Obituary for Joseph Augustine McGovern Jr.
Dateline – Kennebunk Beach
Joseph A. McGovern, age 90, of Kennebunk Beach, Maine passed away on August 3, 2017 with his family by his side. Born in Lawrence, MA to Joseph and Margaret McGovern, he served his country and graduated from Boston University. His career included many years of employment at General Electric as well as the establishment of McGovern Senter and Associates, a management consulting firm. After re¬tiring, he returned to playing the drums with his fellow musicians. Doing so fed his passion for the music that defined him - jazz. That music which was so much a part of him will play forever in our hearts and our homes. Joe is pre¬deceased by his wife, Elaine McCaffrey McGovern, and survived by his three children and their spouses, JoAnn (and Michael) Reed, John McGovern (and Donna DeRoche), James (and Julie) McGovern. His five grandchildren were crazy about him, Michael, Lauren, Haley, Katharine, and Ryan. He is also survived by our close family friend, Skip MacLean. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, talented cook, jazz aficionado, loyal friend, and “a prince of a man”. At his request, no services will be held.
