Obituary for Jean Marie Marcucci (DePari)

Jean Marie Marcucci (DePari)
Jean Marie Marcucci, 88, of Kennebunkport, ME died Sunday, March 21, 2021. After a long, brave battle with Alzheimer’s she passed quietly at home surrounded by family and friends.

Jean left New York City and moved to Kennebunkport with her late husband Umberto (Bert) in 2011 (deceased in 2017, married 64 years) to be close to family, especially their only grandchild Gianna. Jean was born in Boston, MA, October 31, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Amelia (Tricomi) DePari.

As one of a handful of progressive women and mothers in the sixties, Jean always sought out healthier means of child rearing and women’s stability in society. While raising four children her passion for knowledge drew her back to the classroom and despite being the oldest student, her youthful spirit established life-long friendships. Jean excelled at everything, school was no exception as she graduated at the top of her class and immediately applied what she learned in social services.

Jean attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, NYU, and Columbia University, trained at the Ackerman Institute for Family and volunteered at the New York Foundling Hospital and Phoenix House. As a psychoanalyst, Jean opened her private practice in New York City. Her always-steady nature with every word she spoke with tempered and such grace, wisdom and compassion that it demanded growth. She continued with her career in social work and psychoanalysis for the remainder of her life.

Jean will be missed by her surviving daughter Margaret Marcucci-Olson, husband Roger E. Olson Jr. and her grandchild Gianna Grace Olson of Lyman, ME; daughter Emilie Marcucci, two sons Mike and Robert Marcucci and her sister-in-law, Angela (Marcucci) LeBlanc. Auntie Jean was deeply loved by her many cousins, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and extended family and friends of all ages. Jean will be profoundly missed.

A private graveside service will be held at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale, ME where she will be buried next to her late husband Bert.
