Obituary for Lynnia Gail "Lynn" Burpee (Thornton)

Lynnia Gail "Lynn" Burpee (Thornton)
Lynnia (Lynn) Gail Burpee, 70 years, of Wells, passed away August 26, 2020 following a period of declining health.
Lynn was born March 8, 1950 in Chicopee Falls, MA, a daughter of Curtis and Gertrude (Bailey) Thornton. She attended Sanford High School. During Lynn’s early years, she took great pride and joy in raising her children. Lynn worked at the toll booths for many years for the Maine Turnpike Authority to help support her growing family. Once they were grown, she served her community dispatching both full and part time for the towns of Ogunquit, Kennebunk and Wells and the York County Sheriff’s Department. With a little adventuresome spirit and a can-do attitude, Lynn also received her Class A CDL, although she never pursued a career driving freight.
Lynn loved her family and loved caring for her great grandchild, Jaylyn Grant. She enjoyed telling stories about her heritage and jokingly claimed that one of the numerous Motte and Bailey castles in the British Isles had to be hers. She also enjoyed telling about attending Billie Bob Thornton’s birthday party when she was a little girl.
Lynn is lovingly remembered by her sons, Timothy N. Burpee of Manchester, NH and Anthony J. Bean Burpee and his husband, Alan, of Laconia, NH; her daughter, Tamara L. Burpee and her fiancé, John Emery, of Yarmouth, ME; her brother, Vance Thornton and his wife, Kathleen, of York, ME; her three grandchildren, Kassandra Grant, Quinn Burpee and Caleb Burpee; and her great grandchildren, Jaylyn, Kyra and Chayse Grant.
