Richard, while just a few years older at the time, had the unenviable task of overseeing a crowd of late teens and early twenties during an era of ferment and youth rebellion.  All while trying to manage a resort with some level of dignity and decor.  His sometimes gruff exterior was always accompanied by a twinkle of the eye, especially when he checked time cards to see who was properly punched in or overlooked dress shoes polished at the last moment with butter.  He also maintained an interest in each of us outside the confines of the Shawmut and encouraged us to follow our ambitions.  

And I should mention that Susan was a sweet and adorable relish girl!
